Homelessness in Anderson County

March 19, 2009

Homelessness is a growing problem in our local community. On January 25, 2007, a one-day homeless count was done statewide and in Anderson County, there were 30 homeless families with dependent children and 207 homeless individuals. This year a representative from Anderson School district 5 revealed that they’ve identified over 140 homeless children, and a representative of District 4 said they have identified another 50. A number of local churches and area agencies are organizing in new ways to address this problem. A cost-effective, simple solution is already available as a model for local congregations to help our neighbors in need.

Congregations are invited to get involved. A discussion of how we and our congregation can be involved is being held at First Presbyterian Church, Fellowship Hall, 302 West Whitner St., Anderson on Thursday, March 26 at 7:00p.m.

If you are interested in your community and want to get involved for the sake of Christ here is your opportunity. Please know that you are warmly welcome to attend.
